Southford Falls State Park, located near Southbury in western Connecticut, is a picturesque day park. One of the park’s attractions is the 1972 vintage Southford Falls Bridge. It is a 45 foot Burr Arch covered bridge over Eight Mile Brook.
The Burr Arch Truss or, simply, Burr Truss or Burr Arch is a combination of an arch and a multiple kingpost truss design. It was invented in 1804 by Theodore Burr of Torrington, CT and patented on April 3, 1817. The design was used in many covered bridges.
