ČUMIL, the watcher, Bratislava, Slovakia.
Located at the junction of Laurinská and Panská Streets is a statute of a man sticking out of a manhole which was installed in 1997 and became a popular tourist attraction of Old Town Bratislava.
He is called Čumil, which means “the watcher.“ He is either 1. a typical communist era worker who is not doing his work or 2. he’s just a man looking under the women’s skirts. Legend says that if you touch Čumil’s head and you make a wish and keep it a secret forever, your wish will come through.
