Double Calliandra

Double Calliandra at The Pointe-à-Pierre Wild Fowl Trust, Trinidad:
The Pointe-à-Pierre Wild Fowl Trust is an inland fresh water wetland habitat, uniquely situated on a large petrochemical complex on the west coast of Trinidad. At the Trust you will find the Calliandra, a genus of about 200 species of flowering plants native to tropical and subtropical regions. The flowers have numerous long slender stamens, and are produced in cylindrical inflorescences; the stamens give rise to the common name of Powder-puff and Fairy Duster. The interesting 1-inch flower clusters with light pink to reddish-purple stamens looking like a miniature duster.
